The following software
are my top picks for Creating Web Pages without spending a fortune in
software for such products as "Dreamweaver", or "Front Page".
If you think you cannot create wold class web sites with free
tools, think again, all of my sites were created with these tools! NOTE:
I

currently use 2 Open
Source WYSIWYG HTML Web Page Editors: Nvu (pronounced "N-View" and
"KompoZer" both based on the original Mozilla composer website editor
(Mozilla is the organization that created the award winning FireFox
browser). KompoZer
is actually Nvu with many of the bugs worked out. Apparently
the originators of Nvu "lost interest: or ran out of time/energy to
keep the software up to date. KompoZer is quite a bit better
than Nvu, however I want to keep both of them here because there are
some subtle differences in how they work, and it is quite possible that
the two will re-merge back into a single software tool sometime in the
future. Both
softwares pint to their respective webpages in the "About" screen so
you can get updates there or come back here as I always try to keep all

| You've
seen them, those graphic headers and other graphics that are made of
multiple parts that fit together. Sometimes they are used to
create multiply linked graphics where different parts of the graphic
correspond to differnt link choices. Here is a free software
application that can split up graphics, create the proper table, and
save it all into html ready to use in your web pages! It's
simple, straight-forward and works great!
I used
SPLITZ! to split up the graphic that shows me with my motorcycle below
this scroll box (By the way, Clayton Makepeace isn't the only
Copywriter out there who rides a Harley!). I purposely put in
lines to show where the splits are, the picture below that has no lines
but is split up as well. Click on the link to the left an get

| The
ubiquitous "Unblockable" Pop up software : Create pop ups that (when
properly used) can actually enhance the users experience of your web
page. This is my pick for "Graphic Style" Information Windows
(see next section for micro-window text style pop-ups).
These
two really need to be
used together. I actually wrote the second package "PopAdder"
(Celtic Cross Engineering). The first package is another Gary
Ambrose "Internet Promo" package that trys to up-sell an upgrade that
allows you to have "unlimited" pop-up types with any kind of art and
close check boxes, etc. I created Pop-Adder to do all that
for you without having to shell out another 40 bucks. Just
use PopAdder to build entire "Albums" of popups. Cool huh?
With PopAdder you can organize your
albums based on the kinds of pop-up art you want to use instead of
having one HUGE library like Gary's up-sell does.
By the way, I don't call them pop-ups anymore because of
all the "bad
press" that
pop-ups have received in the last few years. I call them
"Information
Windows" because that more accurately explains them: they
are additional information that can be displayed and hidden within the
current browser window.
These information windows use the browsers scripting
(usually php or
javascript) to display their content. Here are some of the

| The
ubiquitous "Unblockable" Pop up software : Create pop ups that (when

page. This is my pick for Textual style Information Windows
(ie: they look a bit like a window on your computer possibly with opt
in text and can "slide in" or "fade in", etc).
This
package was initially offered free by Robert Plank, however it was
quite buggy, especially with regard to inter-browser
appearance. I
fixed some of these bugs, and some remain, however it is still a great
little
application for creating little info windows that slide acrooss or
down, or fade in. I like to use these for opt-ins, etc.
It currently runs in your browser (that is you must locally
point your browser at the file on your disk. ) Eventually I
may write a program wrapper around it and fix the rest of the issues,
but it will show you how these work and for simple text or opt-in
popups it is quite good. If you sign up for my

| HTTrack
Do
you
want to know how they built that site? With
HTTrack Website Copier you can copy any web-site, blog, or other
accessible web content to any depth! The website is stored as
a
project on your hard-drive and is limited only by your storage capacity!
HTTrack
as a ton of features that allows you to set how deep to follow links,
what sort of
files, (ie: CSS, HTML, XML, Images, etc) that you want copied.
This is an enormous help for someone who wants to get
at the look and feel of some of those "professional sites" out
there but
has a shoe string budget.Don't

| PrintKey
2000
PrintKey
is an excellent add-on. It is activated when you
press the PrintScreen Key and allows you to capture the entire screen
or any portion of it. You can then make changes to the screen capture
and save in a variety of formats including .gif, .bmp, .jpeg, .jpg,
.emf and .wmf. You can also swap colors, convert to grayscale or black
and white, change picture size and send to the printer all from this
little freeware program. Tested and works fine with Windows
9x/Me/2000/XP.
I love this program and use it
with Paint Star (below) as well as with MS Power Point (not free but
comes with most PC's). There is a professional version of
this program, but you don't really need it as this thing is great and
just about does it all.

PNG, BMP, PCX, PSD, TGA, EMF, WMF formated graphics?
Paintstar
can read and write all of these formats! It can create
transparent gif and png files as well. Not only that, it can
aquire anything in the cut&paste buffer and turn it into a
graphic.
PaintStar
can manipulate sizes, orientations, add text, edit pixels, colorize,
and it has a huge set of graphics filters (outline, fades,
transparencies, sepia, old-fashoned yellowing, glass effects, morphing,
blur, etc.) and a myriad of tools for editing graphics. I
can't live without this program and neither can you if you
have an online presence!
